True story... Went to a Mexican restaurant in Tuscaloosa Alabama to pick up some food I ordered to go. A white lady comes in and instead of ordering food or ask to be seated, she asked is she could hire any of them to do some yard work for her. Racism in Alabama is as real as it is bold.

@Rod Dedrick She's definitely more outgoing than I ever was. She knows at her young age more about what she wants to do than I did. As her parent, I'd like to take pride in that, but she is the one who has put all the work into her own character. I think she is amazing, but I'm sure that she doesn't realize that she is, herself.

@Rod Dedrick Yeah, many of the Hispanics around here are very hard workers. They are hungry for the money for their own reasons or for the family that they left behind. They tend to seek out work. Even if he couldn't do the job, my daughter's friend would usually know of a handful of other guys who would gladly take on a temporary job, whether it was moving some furniture or digging a hole, etc. She'd help him out on occasion, too, when he needed a ride and his car was out of commission, or if he needed help understanding an English form. She has learned to speak, read, and write Spanish.

I know life isn't fair, but it's sad that your daughter's friend works SO much that he deems sleep a luxury. I truly commend his work ethic though.

My daughter, who is White, worked at an Asian restaurant a few years ago in Alabama that also employed many Hispanics. She was telling me how they held many jobs besides their restaurant job. One particular guy that she befriended: he worked several nights a week at the restaurant, worked in construction during the day, and worked landscaping the rest of the time. Getting to go to sleep was a luxury for him. She had even hired him once to help with a yard project that she was working on. The man wanted the money because he was saving to build a nice house in Mexico. He did eventually go back there.

He should've brought the white guy out on stage so he could tell his side of the story. Just like he did with G. Reilly. That would've been epic and hilarious as well!
